After its 9 long fruitful years of services of giving the Pokemon community the chance to participate online competitions and receiving event Pokemons. Pokemon Global link has made an announcement that they will be shutting down their services on 24 February 2020, 11.59pm UTC. Quote below.
“After more than nine years of operation, the Pokémon Global Link (PGL) service will be retired on February 24, 2020, at 23:59 UTC. After PGL service has ended, you will no longer be able to use any gameplay features that require a connection to the PGL on your Pokémon Ultra Sun, Pokémon Ultra Moon, Pokémon Sun, or Pokémon Moon games. You will still be able to use other online functionality apart from the PGL.”
Do be aware that Pokémon Ultra Sun, Pokémon Ultra Moon, Pokémon Sun, or Pokémon Moon games will not be able to play any online contents related to Pokemon Global Link after 24 February 2020. Regular online features such as battling and trading will still be available in those titles.
Final Give Away. Fennel’s farewell to Munna
Before closing the Global Link. The Pokemon team decided to give a final lovely gesture to the community by giving away Munna who are always by Fennel’s side. Just thinking about it sounds emotional. *Sniff*. How do we collect it? Here’s a simple guide to anyone who is unfamiliar to Global Link System in Sun/Moon or Ultra Sun/ Ultra Moon.
To receive the Pokemon you first have to log into the Pokemon Global Link. There will be a personal notification about the gift will appear on the homepage. Click on the link within the notification and it will give you a download code. Once done, pick up your 3DS with Sun/Moon or Ultra Sun/ Ultra Moon on.
- At the Main Menu press “Mystery Gift”
- Press “Receive Gift”
- Press Get with Code/Password
- connect online
- Input download code
- Open your save file
- Retrieve the Pokemon from the deliveryman in any Pokemon Center
Though the Global Link may be shutting down. That means they are taking the team managing Global Link to start a new project. We can only wonder what could it be? Just the thought about it sounds exciting!
